Hand Tool Redesign

Hand tool redesign based on ergonomics and human factors

I first started by doing careful research into what a comfortable shape would be for a hand tool, as well as researching human factors data about hand angles, grip strength, and injury analysis.
Using the research data I created some prototype handles out of low density foam.  I first made a symmetrical control handle, then added different ergonomic elements such as a palm rest, increased length, and finger grooves to iterative models.
I then used what I learned from the handle designs to create a study model.
After testing and experimenting with the study model, I  created a full appearance model from acrylic, sine foam, and vacuformed polystyrene.
The end result is a fully realistic appearance model that looks identical to that of a full production model.
